The Community Awards recognizes significant contributions by individuals who have consistently demonstrated excellence, are innovative in their profession, inspire creativity and invest in our community.

Citizen of the Year (elected officials are excluded)

  • Recognizes an individual who exemplifies the model of an ideal citizen–innovative, creative, professional, involved, and committed.
  • They have made a significant contribution to education, arts, community service and the general welfare of the community, because of their involvement or financial support.
  • This person promotes teamwork, common vision and established high standards of personal excellence.
  • Must be a San Ramon resident of no less than three years.

Business Person of the Year

  • Recognizes the significant contributions of an individual to the economic vitality of the San Ramon business community.
  • This person serves as a role model for other business people. He or she shares resources, provides counsel to others, and has an established reputation for being ethical.
  • He or she is innovative, creative and professional.
  • Must be a member of the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce.
  • Must own or have played a management role in an established enterprise.

Educator of the Year

  • Recognizes an individual who has made significant personal and professional contributions to the overall well-being of San Ramon Valley student as a leader, educator or mentor.
  • This person has established high academic and personal standards among students and has developed strategies that help ensure students’ success — both personally and in the workforce.
  • He or she encourages students to strive for excellence and identify projects that enhance their self-esteem, while promoting community service.
  • This individual works diligently to foster awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity.
  • He or she is innovative, creative and professional.

Employee of the Year

  • Recognizes personal contributions made by an individual employee of a business or enterprise.
  • Criteria for selection will be based on the employee’s volunteer participation in community organization(s), either in a capacity as a board member or as a volunteer, and/or having done a significant level of community service either to the Chamber or to other local nonprofit group(s).
  • The individual selected will embody the concept of giving to their community through community service with the support from their employer AND be an outstanding employee.
  • Must be an employee of a member of the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce.

“Green” Company/Individual of the Year

  • Recognizes a business or person who has demonstrated a significant commitment to earth-friendly practices in their daily activities in operations.
  • Serves as a model of environmental sustainability, social responsibility and fiscal prudence.
  • Seeks to meet all legal environmental regulations and go beyond basic compliance, and is recognized as an environmental leader.
  • Must be a member, or an employee of a member, of the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce.
